Answer:There are three possibilities. These might either be baseline symbols or summary row symbols. A third possibility is that a symbol appears to be on one row but is actually on the row above or below. Unlock the baseline:On the View tab, Lock Baseline. Turn off summary bars:These are added automatically on upper level tasks and summarize the lower level tasks. To remove summary bars:
Locate a "rogue" symbolOnce in a while an un-selectable symbol actually belongs to a different row. That is, the symbol had it vertical position moved up or down to the point that it is moved out of its row. To be sure that a symbol hasn't been moved off of it's row, turn on the Overlay numbers view. This is just a temporary view which makes it easy to see at a glance if any symbols have been shifted out of their row.
Another way to locate a symbol which appears on the wrong row is to use the arrow keys. In this case, select a nearby symbol. Then, use the keyboard arrow keys (left, right, up, down) to select an adjoining symbol. Eventually you should see the rogue symbol highlight. Then you can delete it or move it back to its own row.
