Question:
I need to connect a symbol from one row to the center of a bar on another row. It looks like vertical connectors only go from symbol to symbol. Is there any way to show the connector hitting the middle of a bar?

Answer:
This is easily accomplished by adding a "null" or blank symbol in the middle of the bar. Then, just connect to that symbol from the symbol above.
Add a null symbol to your toolbox:

Double-click any symbol in your toolbox that you are currently not using.

On the Symbol Shape tab, set the Standard Shape to #28.

On the Text and Date Properties tab, for Text Placement and for Date Placement, choose Hide.
Add the symbol to the bar's midpoint:

Click  (the toolbox Plus tool).

Click once on the null symbol in the toolbox.

Add the null symbol to the bar.
Connect a symbol to the null symbol:

Click (the toolbox Plus tool).

Click once on the "from" symbol.

Click a vertical connector in the toolbox:

Click once on the null symbol you added.
