Maintain an audit trail

Question:     

To maintain an audit trail of changes for various plans, I enter the file name, date, and time in the lower left corner of my Microsoft Project and Excel files.  Anyone having a question can thus refer to that file name, date and time group so as to have the correct reference for the discussion.

Is there a way I can do that with Milestones?

 

Answer:

The best way to do that would be to use freeform text.  You can even use substitutable text strings to place the file name as well as the current time and date automatically within the box.

Add a FreeForm text block with a substitutable text string.

  1. Select the Text tool    in the ToolBox.

  2. Click the location on the schedule where you want the text to appear

  3. Type:  &filename

  4. Click away from this free-form text, and the file name will appear  

These are the available substitutable text strings:

  •  &date current         schedule date

  •  &sysdate               computer date

  •  &curpage               current page number

  •  &maxpage             maximum page number

  •  &filename              filename of schedule

  •  &systime               computer system time
