Create the perfect Milestones toolbox

Customizing your toolbox to make it contain just the symbols and bars you need will save you time in the long run. You can customize:

The toolbox size (how many rows of symbols and bars you want)
The toolbox location (do you want a floating toolbox, or would you like it to be "stuck" in the sidebar?
The tools you want If you never use the line, rectangle or circle tools, you can choose to hide them.
The number of vertical connectors Choose 0, 1 or 2 rows.

Set the toolbox up with all the symbols and bars needed by your organization

First, decide how many symbols and bars are needed in the toolbox. It's possible to have up to 32 rows in the combo toolbox. Each row includes two symbols and one horizontal bar. Up to 8 vertical connectors (for dependencies) can be shown in the toolbox.

Set the general properties for the toolbox:

Right-click the toolbox.
Choose Toolbox Properties...
Choose Use Combo Toolbox and specify the number of rows:.
Set the number of Vertical Link rows (set to 1 in the example to the right)
Decide whether you would like the Line, Box and Circle tools to appear (check box)
Decide on other selections and press OK to continue customizing your toolbox.

Change a symbol in the toolbox by double-clicking on it:

Move on to the next tab to change the symbol color, pattern, size, and shadow:

Change the default Text and Date properties of the symbol:

Assign default text to a toolbox symbol:

Assign up to three lines of text to each symbol in the toolbox. When a symbol with Default Text is added to the schedule, both the symbol and text appear.

The text is based on user-entered text or text from a selected column.

NOTE: Text attached to any symbol already on the schedule will not be affected by changes to the Default Text. That is, changes to the Default Text only affect symbols that subsequently get added, not those already on the schedule.

Double-click the symbol in the toolbox.
Choose the Default Text tab.
For user-entered text, under Line, enter the text to appear when this symbol is added to the schedule.
For a column's text to appear as the default text, under Insert Text from Column below, select an existing column from the drop-down list, then press Insert.
Repeat by assigning user-entered text and/or column-based text for up to three symbol text slots.

In the example below, default text is assigned to the red triangle symbol in the toolbox. The text from the Name column is assigned to Line 1; the word Finish is assigned to Line 2; and the text from the % column is assigned to Line 3. When the red symbol is added to the schedule, the default text appears automatically.
