Project to Milestones wizard - About the imported schedule

A Milestones Professional schedule that originates from an import from Microsoft Project can be different from some aspects of a manually created Milestones Professional schedule.

Column values derived from Microsoft Project and displayed in Milestones Professional

Some fields that come from Microsoft Project are text, instead of date, duration, or currency values that are computed by Milestones.

• For example, a Start Date SmartColumn in Milestones Professional has date values that are derived directly from symbols placed in the schedule area. However, some dates that come from Microsoft Project are not derived from symbols; they are text derived directly from Microsoft Project. Therefore, if a start symbol on a schedule that was created through importing is moved, the start date column value will not change because it's simply text.

• In another example, a Duration SmartColumn in Milestones Professional has duration values that are derived directly from the first and last symbols placed in the schedule area. Generally, duration values that come from Microsoft Project are not derived in this way; they are text derived directly from Microsoft Project. This ensures that the duration values are exactly as they are in Microsoft Project, and that working/non-working days and holidays in Milestones Professional will not interfere with the correct values.

Thus, when the values are text (not derived from the schedule area data), changes to the symbols will not result in changes to the column values. For example, if the duration value derived from Microsoft Project displays in Milestones Professional as 10, then a change in that task's symbol dates will not result in a change in the duration value.

It's possible to add SmartColumns, using data derived from the schedule. For example, if the imported duration data is text, then just add a Duration SmartColumn.
