Milestones Professional's Internet Publisher lets the user publish a single schedule as HTML, or a complete hierarchy of schedules, complete with hotspots, in minutes.
For each schedule, the Internet Publishing output is an HTML document containing a picture of each page of the schedule, optional tables of schedule data, and more.
Set up a hierarchy of schedules to be published:
-
From the top level or main schedule, add symbol hyperlinks to other schedules (typically, these schedules contain more detail or related information).
-
Optionally, from these secondary schedules, add symbol hyperlinks to further detailed schedules, if they exist.
Publish a hierarchy of schedules as HTML and pictures:
-
Open the top level schedule.
-
Choose File | Export Options | Internet.
-
HTML File with Optional Pictures.
-
Create HTML Files for Hyperlinked schedules from this file and all linked schedules so that hyperlinked schedules are processed, then Next.
-
Choose an HTML Background Color, then Next.
-
Enter a Title for the HTML page, then Next. For no title, just key an HTML command, such as <br>.
-
Select the Bitmap OptionsSelect the Bitmap Options and then Next.
-
Include a Bitmap of each page to create a picture of each schedule page.
-
Include a Hyperlink Image Map to create a hotspot for each symbol that has a hyperlink.
-
Bitmap Format for the graphics output.graphics output. For Bitmap
Format, JPEG is usually the best choice if the image
will be viewed with a browser. Not all browsers support BMP
files. GIF is limited to only 256 colors, so any included
bitmaps or gradient fills will degrade in quality. Most browsers
support PNG (Portable Network Graphics) files; it is not limited
to 256 colors; and is a good alternative to GIF. PNG files
are about the same size as GIF files.
-
JPEG Compression factor from 10 to 99 (or none).from 10 to 99 (or none). The lower the JPEG Compression number selected, the smaller the file will be. However, the image quality will degrade accordingly.
-
Image Scale ratio.ratio.Determines how large the resultant bitmap is. 1.0 is full size according to the page layout size. 0.5 is 50% of the page layout size.
-
Graphic File Name Starter and Show Roll-up Indicators options are ignored.
-
Select the Task Table OptionsSelect the Task Table Options and then Next.
-
Exclude Symbols from the Task Table to not display symbol dates in the Task Table portion of the HTML file. The Task Table is a table of schedule data, with one row per task.
-
Exclude Task Table from HTML File to not display the entire Task Table in the HTML file.
-
Select Additional OptionsSelect Additional Options and then Next.
-
Exclude File Name to not display the name of the Milestones file in the HTML file.
-
Exclude Start and End Date to not display Project Start Date and End Date notations in the HTML file.
-
Include Symbol Hyperlinks to display a Task Table number next to the date of a symbol with a hyperlink to the appropriate file or URL.
-
Choose Browse to select the file name and location for the HTML and graphics files. Tips:Tips:
-
Normally, the user
would want to store the HTML files and images for any one
publishing session in a folder by themselves.
-
All references to
files created by the wizard are relative to the folder that
is chosen. That is, no referenced file or image has a path
in front of the file name. This makes it easy to move the
contents of the entire folder to a web server.
-
HTML files or images
created that are based upon file names that have blanks, will
have underscores where the blanks were. This is done because
most browsers cannot handle blanks in file names.
-
Choose Next and Finish.
Example: Hierarchy of linked schedules in HTML:

When processing hyperlinks from linked schedules, the names of the pictures use the names of the HTML page with a number and picture extension appended. For example, if the schedule has the name ProjectA.mlp, then the picture of the third schedule page will be named ProjectA.mlp.html003.jpg. The HTML Task Table's heading background color is based on the column heading background color from the Milestones schedule.
