Column tag of Override Fill Color

Question:

Could you explain the purpose of the "or Column tag of Override Fill Color" feature in the Symbol Properties>Size/Color/Summary menu, and how to use this feature? I'm unable to find any information on it in either the User Manual.

Answer:

This feature lets the symbol fill color to be determined by the contents of a cell in a tagged column. It is mostly for use with automation as a way for the automation program to programmatically control the ultimate fill color of a symbol by putting specific strings into a column.

The column to be used has an automation tag, such as “text2" (if using the Microsoft Project Text2 column to update the color).

Each symbol to be updated must be tagged with text2 in the "Tag of Column that contains fill color overrides" field this case also.

Here is an example. In this example the Texas symbols are tagged with text2 in the "Tag of Column that contains field override" field. Additionally, "My Color Column" is tagged with text2.
