Resource Allocation Percent SmartColumn

Control the effort of a resource assigned to a particular task by using a resource allocation percentage. The resource allocation value can be entered in the Resource Allocation Percent SmartColumn or in any cell on the appropriate task row.

According to the Duration Settings, the resource allocation percent will or will not be applied to the Duration SmartColumns' values (see the example below).

Add a Resource Allocation Percent SmartColumn:

1. Choose Insert | Rows, Columns | New Column | Resource Allocation Percent.

2. Click once on the column heading of the newly inserted column.  This will display the Selection menu.

3. Under Column Heading Text, enter a column title.

4. Click Apply Text Changes.

Enter a Resource Allocation percent:

1. Click (the toolbox Arrow tool.)

2. Click once on a column cell on the task row whose resource needs an allocation percent (do not choose an individual Duration SmartColumn cell). This should display the Selection menu for the task row.

3. In the Task/Row Settings section, enter a value as shown below:

1. Click (the toolbox Text tool.)

2. Click once in the Resource Allocation Percent SmartColumn cell for the appropriate task row.

3. Enter a value.

Resource Allocation Percent Example:

In the example,Team Alpha will be working on Project 2 50% of the time, and Project 4 50% of the time. This does not change the durations of the tasks, yet better indicates the effort needed to complete the tasks. Thus, the overall usage of this resource is 100% for this time period.

The “Allocated Duration” column is a Duration SmartColumn. To show the impact of the resource allocation percent on duration choose Apply Resource Allocation Percent for each task row to resultant Duration Display.
