Scroll and zoom

Milestones offers a number of ways to move around the schedule.

Zooming in and out:

Zoom using the View menu:

Choose View | Viewing Options | Zoom for a list of magnification options. The 100% option is based on the physical size of the schedule.

Zoom by right-clicking

  1. While in Fit in Window view, right-click the area to zoom into and out from.

  2. The right-click zoom options include Fit in Window and the last zoom setting that selected. For example, if the zoom toolbar is used to select 400% zoom, then the right-click menu will offer the 400% zoom and increments of that value.

Zoom using the mouse and keyboard together:

Zoom into a specific area of the schedule by a specified magnification value.

  1. Choose View | Viewing Options | Zoom to select a magnification value.
  2. Hover the cursor over the schedule area to be magnified.
  3. Press the F11 key to toggle between Fit in Window and the selected magnification.

-or-

  1. While pressing the keyboard CTRL key, right click the mouse to toggle between fit and window and the current zoom setting.
Zoom using the keyboard:
  1. Open the computer's Accessibility Options found in the Control Panel.

  2. Select the Mouse tab and turn on MouseKeys. The numbers on the number keypad will now become mouse movement keys (not to be confused with cursor movement keys).

  3. Using the 2, 4, 6, or 8 key on the numeric keypad move the cursor on the screen to an area of the schedule and then press F11 to zoom in and out.

Zoom using the status bar

Use the slider at the bottom of the Milestones Window on the right side of the status bar.

Scroll horizontally and vertically through a zoomed schedule

  • When in a view larger than the Fit in Window view, the schedule can be scrolled using the scroll barsscroll bars.
  • On the right and bottom of the Milestones window, notice the square boxessquare boxes in between the left and right arrows, and the up and down arrows (scroll bars). Click and drag to move to another part of the schedule.
  • Move slower through the schedule by clicking the arrows at the ends of the scroll bars.

Scroll through the schedule by date

It's possible to scroll through the schedule by any number of days so that there is a  “sliding” time window.  One way is via continuous view (see below).  The other way is to scroll by date using the keyboard or toolbar.

Set the number of days to scroll by:
  1. Click Dates | Start and End Dates | More Settings.

  2. Click Yearly/Monthly/Fiscal Year Settings.

  3. Enter a value for Working days to scroll with Shift+PgUp/PgDn.

Scroll using the toolbar

in Dates | Date Range Tools  click  (Scroll displayed range backward) or  (Scroll displayed range forward.)

Scroll forward by 30 days:

Scroll using the keyboard

Use Shift+PgUp to scroll backward, Shift+PgDn to scroll backward.

Use continuous view to work with a large schedule

Continuous view eliminates the title and all page breaks temporarily, making it easier to work on very large schedules.  allows the user to scroll through the list of tasks and scroll the timescale forwards and backwards. In Continuous view, the columns are locked-down, while scroll buttons allow for moving the timescale and task rows in view.

Switch to Continuous view mode:
  1. Press the F8 key, or go to View | Viewing Options | Page View.

  2. Choose Continuous from the drop-down menu.

  3. Use the scroll bars at the bottom and right of the schedule to scroll through tasks and time periods.

Scroll task rows with PageUp and PageDown:

Use the PageUp and PageDown keys to scroll a specified number of task rows, from 1 to 40.

  1. Choose Tools | Options | Edit.

  2. Select a value under Lines to Scroll for PgUp/PgDn in Continuous View.

  3. Then use the PageUp and PageDown keys to scroll through the task rows by that increment.

F8 is the shortcut key for entering and exiting Continuous view mode.   Continuous view cannot be used if no columns exist on the left side of the schedule.
