Question:
I have a Milestones schedule which I imported from Microsoft Project. Now, I would like to add several tasks to the schedule without re-importing. What's the best way to do this?

Answer:
There are several ways to get this done:
Method 1: Add individual milestone symbols to a row and link each one to a Microsoft Project task:
- Open the Microsoft Project schedule which has the new tasks.
- Open the Milestones Professional schedule (will be referred to as Schedule1.MLP)
- In Microsoft Project, select a task to be added.
- In Milestones, add a symbol to a task row in Schedule1.MLP.
- Right-click the new symbol.
- Choose Link to Active MS Project task...
- Select the date field to be linked.
- Make other selections, such as symbol text for this symbol.
- Choose Tag and Update. The symbol date will be changed to reflect the date in Project.
- Repeat as needed for other Microsoft Project tasks to be linked.
Method 2: Add a symbology set to a task row:
- Open the Microsoft Project schedule which has the new tasks.
- Open the Milestones Professional schedule (will be referred to as Schedule1.MLP)
- In Microsoft Project, select a task to be added.
- In Milestones, right click (in the column area) on the task row on which the new task will be added.
- Choose Link to Active MS Project task...
- If this Milestones task row has several Microsoft Project tasks, then
Tag task rows.
Add Symbology.
- Choose Standard.
- In the list under Standard, make a selection.
- Make other selections, such as symbol text. If the Milestones schedule includes tasks from multiple Microsoft Project schedules be sure to select the File nickname for multi-project refresh (at the top)
- Choose Tag. The new symbology will be added to the task row if
Add Symbology is checked.
Method 3: Filter the Microsoft Project schedule. Import the new tasks. Merge with the existing schedule.
- In Microsoft Project, filter the schedule so that only new tasks are visible.
- In Milestones, choose Connections | Create Report from Project and proceed through the wizard to import the new tasks.
- Once the tasks have been imported, save the imported schedule. (For this example, it will be called Schedule2.MLP.)
- Open the existing Milestones Professional schedule. (The one on which the new tasks will be added.)
- Choose File | Open | Chart to Merge.
- Browse to and select Schedule2.MLP. The new tasks are now at the bottom of the schedule. Rearrange as needed.
