Fiscal and calendar quarters

The date heading type Quarters aligns itself with fiscal years (i.e. Q1 aligns with the beginning of the fiscal year).

With the start number feature, quarters can be offset to align with the calendar year. For example, if Q2 happens to align with the beginning of the calendar year, then an offset number of -1 can be entered to force Q1 to align with the beginning of the calendar year.

Thus, it's possible to have "calendar year quarters" and "fiscal year quarters" in the same date heading.

As shown below, quarters are aligned with the calendar years in the top two date heading rows, and aligned with the fiscal years in the bottom two rows.

Create quarter headings for fiscal and calendar years:

First, choose which month begins the fiscal year

  1. Choose Dates | Start and End Dates | .

  2. Click Yearly/Monthly/Fiscal Year Settings.

  3. Choose the Fiscal Year Starting Month from the drop-down menu.

  4. Choose OK.

Next, create the date headings with years, quarters, fiscal years, and (again) quarters.

  1. Click once on the date heading in the schedule area. This will display the Selection menu.

  2. As shown below, select the heading types for years, quarters, fiscal years, and quarters.

  3. Change the Start value for the Quarterly entry which will align with the Yearly date heading.

    • The value entered should be a negative number which offsets the number of quarters which are out of alignment with the years.

    • In the example below, Q2 was initially aligned with the beginning of the calendar year. A Start number of -1 changes Q2 to Q1, thus aligning the quarters with the start of the calendar year.
