When do dependent tasks move?
There are various methods to move parentparent tasks (predecessors); not all methods result in dependent tasks moving (successors). Below is a guide to when dependent tasks will move.
A "parent" task (predecessor) is a symbol or task bar linked via a vertical link to a "dependent" task's symbol or task bar (successor).
Dependent tasks will not move unless Dependency Mode is turned on. Thus, the examples below assume that Dependency Mode is on.
Move parent task with mouse
Using the mouse to move a parent task will change the dependent task dates.
Change Duration SmartColumn value
Changing a parent task's duration value in a Duration SmartColumn will change its end date and will change the dependent task dates.
Change date SmartColumn
Changing a parent task's date in a Start Date or End Date SmartColumn will not change dependent task dates. The same applies when using the calendar icon to change the parent task date.
Change date embedded in symbol
Changing the date embedded in a symbol on the schedule will optionally change dependent task dates. The user is prompted to shift or not shift dependent symbols.
Move parent task with Shift+Left/Right Arrow
Moving a parent task with the Shift+Left/Right Arrow controls will change the dependent task dates.
