Copy or move task rows and cells

One or more task rows or cells can be copied and pasted within the same schedule or another schedule.  


Copy and paste task rows on a schedule

  1. Click  (the toolbox Arrow tool.)

  2. Click once in the column area of the task row to be copied. The entire row will highlight in black to indicate it is selected.  This will display the Selection menu for the task row.

    • Selecting a summary task with collapsed sub-tasks will cause all collapsed sub-tasks to be copied as well, up to a maximum of 448 task rows.

    • Press the Ctrl key while selecting task rows to select two or more non-contiguous task rows for copying.

    • Press the Shift key while selecting task rows to select a range of task rows for copying.

  3. On the Selection tab, choose, choose Cut, Copy, Paste, Delete Hide | Copy to copy.    Or, choose Cut, Copy, Paste, Delete Hide | Cut to cut.

  4. Choose Cut, Copy, Paste, Delete Hide |Paste. The cursor will now look like this:Miles00000271.gif.

  5. For pasting the copied task row on another schedule page, use the PageDown and PageUp keys to move from page-to-page. Clicking the scroll bar negates the copy/paste process.

  6. Click once on a task row to paste the copied task row below that task row.


Copy and paste task rows to a different schedule

  1. Open all the schedules involved in the copy operation within the same instance of Milestones.

    • Note: Each time an independent Milestones window is started, it is called an "instance."  Users can have multiple instances of Milestones open at a time.  Tell how many instances of Milestones are currently open by viewing the Windows Taskbar.  To copy and paste between two schedules, the operation must take place within the same instance of Milestones.  It is best to open the Milestones software first, and then open charts using the File | Files and Templates: Open and Save Options | Open tab.  When the two schedules are open in the same instance of Milestones, rows from one schedule can be copied and pasted to the other.  

  2. On the left side of the toolbar, choose  (the Window button).  The user can also go to View | Window Controls | Switch Windows.  Choose the schedule containing the task row to be copied.

  3. Click  (the toolbox Arrow tool.)

  4. Click once in the column area of the task row to be copied. The entire row will highlight in black to indicate it is selected.  This will display the Selection menu for the task row.

  6. Click  (the toolbox Arrow tool.)

  7. On the left side of the toolbar, choose  (the Window button).  The user can also go to View | Window Controls | Switch Windows.  Choose the schedule in which the task row will be pasted.

  8. On the Selection tab, choose Cut, Copy, Paste, Delete Hide | Paste.

    • The cursor will now look like this:Miles00000271.gif.

  9. Use the PageDown and PageUp keys to move from page-to-page. Clicking the scroll bar negates the copy/paste process.

  10. Click once on a task row to paste the copied task row below that task row.


Move task rows (cut and paste) on a schedule

  1. Click  (the toolbox Arrow tool.)

  2. Click once in the column area of the task row to be cut. The entire row will highlight in black to indicate it is selected.  This will display the Selection menu.

    • Selecting a summary task with collapsed sub-tasks will cause all collapsed sub-tasks to be cut as well, up to a maximum of 448 task rows.

    • Press the Ctrl key while selecting task rows to select two or more non-contiguous task rows for cutting.

    • Press the Shift key while selecting task rows to select a range of task rows for cutting.

  3. Choose Selection | Cut, Copy, Paste, Delete Hide| Cut.

  4. Choose Paste from the same section.

    • The cursor will now look like this:Miles00000271.gif.

  5. For pasting the cut task row on another schedule page, use the PageDown and PageUp keys to move from page-to-page. Clicking the scroll bar negates the cut/paste process.

  6. Click once on a task row to paste the cut task row below that task row.


Cut and paste one or more task rows to another schedule

Copy and paste task cells

 

Copy a single task cell
  1. Click  (the toolbox Arrow tool.)

  2. Click once in the column area of the task to select the task row.

  3. Click again in the column area.  This time click the cell to be copied.

  4. On the Selection tab, choose Cell Text Settings | Copy Cell Text.

Paste a task cell
  1. Click  (the toolbox Arrow tool.).

  2. Click once in the column area of the task to select the task row.

  3. Click again in the column area.  This time click the cell where the text will be pasted.

  4. On the Selection tab, choose Cell Text Settings | Paste.

Multipaste (fill) task cells
  1. Click  (the toolbox Arrow tool.)

  2. Click once in the column area of the task to select the task row where the pasted cells should start.

  3. Click again in the column area.  This time click the cell where the text will be pasted.  The text will be pasted into the same column, for all subsequent rows.

  4. On the Selection tab, choose Cell Text Settings | Multi-paste.
