Make a swimlane schedule
Method 1: Many Milestones rows for each swimlane.
One way to create a swimlane chart is to use a separate row for each item in the swimlane and just change the shading to make it appear that all the items are on one row. In the example below, the task number is shown on the right.
Make a swimlane:
- Click
.
- Select the task rows to be included in the first swimlane.
- In the toolbar, in the Task Row Settings section, expand More Task Row Options and choose Gridline/Shade.
Apply New Sections to all Three sections.
Show Gridlines (uncheck) since you will only want gridlines on the last task row in the swimlane.
- On the Shading tab, choose a shading color for the swimlane.
- Select the last row in the swimlane.
- In the toolbar, in the Task Row Settings section, expand More Task Row Options and choose Gridline/Shade.
Show Gridlines since you want a grid line on the last row of the swimlane.

Method 2: One Milestones row for each swimlane.
Another way to make a swimlane schedule is to increase the height of each row enough to accommodate the items for each swimlane.

Make a swimlane chart with one row per swimlane:
- Click
.
- Click the first row.
- In the toolbar, in the Task Row Settings section, expand More Task Row Options and choose Gridline/Shade.
Apply New Sections to all Three sections.
Show Gridlines if you want to show a gridline for each] swimlane.
- On the Shading tab, choose a shading color for the swimlane.
